| Thanks to all the Magpie fans out there who have been kind enough to send us an e-mail. It is somewhat difficult to get the news out about our work to the old fans. The Internet is great but there is just so much stuff out there. We shall keep trying to spread the good word and we appreciate knowing that we are reaching an audience. Thanks. |
| Hi Tony and Greg, Wonderful website. I've added a link from the official Magpies site (should have done it ages ago - sorry) so more fans can visit. Thanks for the link on yours.Go the Mighty Magpies!! Regards Andrew Waite webmaster westsmagpies.net |
| Hi Tony, I was browsing through google looking for the current west's site and came across your magnficent site. Did that bring back some great memories. I am now almost 49, and really began to follow the pies in 68/69 and I was at Kogarah. I still remember the 13 points in 5 minutes. I can also remember Tony Ford scoring a try at Kogarah and we won 13-5 ( I think). That was in the late 60's as well. I can't cop Wests / Tigers, but I still go 3 to 4 times a year to Campbelltown to see the Flegg and Permier League. Don't really like the new jersey. I reckon a lot died in me when we merged, but life goes on and your site is truly magnificent. I will see if I have anything to add from that era. What about the last game in '69, Ned's last game. Pissing down at Penrith Park and we won 12-2 to finish 5th. I have hundreds of League weeks and Programs from 68-76 if you would like a look... Regards and thanks Richo |
| Congratulations on putting together a fantastic site. As a
true blue
Wests fan since I was a kid your efforts have brought back some
fantastic memories. I was brought up in a Wests household and never
missed a game throughout the sixties. I grew up idolising the likes of
Jim Cody, Barry Bryant, Tony Ford, Don Parish & co.. You spoke of a game between Wests and St George in 1968 which Wests won but I remember an even better one between those 2 sides in 1966 which Wests won 12-9 at Kogarah. It was Saints first loss at home in something like 10 years. What a game. A site like this goes to show that although the Maggies have disappeared the memory will always live on. Thanks again John Byrne |

Hi Tony, Just had a look at your website and lost 3 hours of my life. The memories came flooding back as I started clicking around the site. I'm now 56yo and remember going to Pratten Park in the late fifties and early sixties with Mum and Dad. We'd sit on the bench seats on the halfway line so I remember the gates to the outer vividly. Probably my biggest memory of Pratten Park was when Wests played St.George (I'm pretty sure it was Saints) in 1963. The fulltime bell rang - yes, BELL - and the score was tied and Wests got a penalty right on fulltime. They were on the halfway line only about a metre or so from the sideline. Unbelievably, the ball was thrown to Peter Dimond, who no-one had ever seen kick a ball - ever. Peter dug a mound and placed the ball which was probably 54 yards from the posts. He moved in and gave it one hell of a kick. I was sitting right behind the kick. The ball seemed to hang in the air forever and the crowd went deftly quiet. We watched in absolute amazement as it went right between the posts over the black dot and won the game. Peter Dimond was always a hero of mine and that day will live in my memory forever. Peter had a great football career and played with the all-conquering 1963 Australian team. Could you pencil him in on your prospective interview list. Thanks, Steve |

Dear Tony What a fantastic site! Have been a wests supporter for as long as I can remember, my earliest reccollection of WESTS is of going to a game with my Dad to Pratten Park in the middle 60's against Parramatta, as Dad's did back then he found me a seat prior to 3RD grade gave me some coins and went to Wests Leagues and came back for IST grade. At the time I was only about 7 or 8 years old. Living at Blacktown it was a long time between going to games but I loved WESTS. One of Dads friends was Rob McGuiness who gave me my first WESTS jearsey. I saw NED KELLY play his last game at Penrith Park in 69 which was my second time going to the footy. Loved your story and pics on Lidcombe Oval it was my home away from home during the 70's WESTS v France at LIdcombe, Parra taking 14 years to win at Lidcombe, WESTS v Souths with Spider Mullins taking a kick off from Souths to score the winning try, Dallas's jearsey draped over a chair when he died. What great memories. Thanks for your site and keep the memory of the mighty PIES alive. COM.................O........N WE............ST.....S Regards Wayne O'Brien |

Hi Tony, First of all, I would like to say it is with great pleasure I write this email. I am the son of John (Mowy) Mowbray. I stumbled onto your interview with my father and it was great!!!!.I found out stuff I never knew about my father as he is not the most modest man???? To go to a west's reunion is a great thing and to hear the old stories is what this great game needs and is all about. The Tradition they all show is unsurpassable. Plus the songs they belt out are classics.I thought I would let you know, the interview made me extremely proud and If I can find any memorabilia, I will be sure to send it your way. Thanks again, Craig Mowbray |
